Course 1: Foundations of Manufacturing Supervision & Core Operations

Elevated Supervision

Supervisor Development Program Manager

Learn essential strategies to succeed in your new role as Supervisor.

A promotion into front-line leadership is an exciting opportunity, but many newly promoted Supervisors underestimate the challenges and the steep learning curve that lies ahead.

Too often, new Supervisors become overwhelmed with the demands of the role and the impacts can be disastrous for the individual leader and for the broader organization.

The Supervisor Essentials course, which is the first in our 5 course supervisor development program, is designed to provide attendees with the foundational skills needed to be an effective new front-line leader, and to lay the groundwork for more advanced topics in subsequent courses.

In every course, you won't just learn new front-line leadership strategies; you'll put them into practice and build your supervisor muscles!

What you’ll learn

You'll be ready to lead so you can focus on solving real problems that matter to your team.

  • Bridging the gap between upper management and the floor; understanding safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC).

  • Tracking and interpreting OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), throughput, cycle time, and labor efficiency.

  • OSHA standards, hazard identification, conducting effective safety huddles, and fostering a safety-first culture.

  • Writing, updating, and auditing standard work to ensure consistent output and process stability.

  • Managing effective shift transitions, understanding master production schedules, and addressing bottlenecks.

  • Root cause awareness, identifying defects early, and the cost of poor quality (COPQ).

  • Simulating a real shift startup scenario and presenting a plan for daily operational tracking.
