Course overview
The Innovation Practitioner is a high-impact, immersive programme built specifically for professionals in Defence, government, and complex public sector environments who are ready to move from supporting innovation to leading it.
Over five days, you’ll gain the tools, confidence, and hands-on experience needed to tackle complex challenges, engage stakeholders across silos, and facilitate meaningful, measurable change.
Often described by past participants as an “Innovation Mini-MBA”, this course blends world-class facilitation practice with proven methods from design thinking, agile strategy, and innovation sprint frameworks—used by organisations like the UK MoD, NATO, and Google.
You won’t just learn innovation theory—you’ll do it, every day of the course, in live simulations, practical group work, and real-case scenarios tailored to Defence and public sector realities.
You’ll learn how to:
Design and lead strategic workshops that cut through noise, align diverse teams, and accelerate decision-making
Apply innovation tools like How Might We, structured ideation, and decision frameworks to real Defence or policy challenges
Translate strategy into action, turning complex objectives into focused, testable roadmaps in days, not months
Facilitate cross-functional sessions that bring together stakeholders from capability, procurement, ops, digital, and beyond
Build a repeatable innovation practice within your unit, team, or department—one that survives busy schedules and real-world constraints
Create a culture of experimentation, psychological safety, and rapid learning inside traditionally risk-averse structures
Manage energy and resistance in sessions with tools to keep focus, ensure engagement, and deal with challenging dynamics
By the end of the course, you will:
✅ Be certified as an Innovation Practitioner, demonstrating your facilitation and innovation leadership capability
✅ Confidently lead innovation workshops and sprints, even in high-pressure, hierarchical or cross-rank environments
✅ Gain a complete, field-tested toolkit, ready to deploy in strategic planning, transformation initiatives, or operational problem-solving
✅ Understand how to show measurable impact, enabling you to build momentum, report outcomes, and secure buy-in
✅ Join a professional network of innovation leaders, actively working across Defence, government, and public services to drive meaningful change
