The skills that made you a high-performing individual contributor won’t make you a great manager—and relying on them too long will hold you and your team back. As AI reshapes how work gets done, the pressure to lead effectively from day one has never been higher. Yet most new managers are expected to just figure it out: manage former peers, scale themselves without losing visibility, build trust, handle difficult conversations, and balance execution with people leadership—all without real training or a playbook.
This course teaches the practical, must-have manager skills you were never taught and how to apply them to your day-to-day.
You’ll learn how to shift from doer to leader, set clear expectations without micromanaging, build trust and accountability, and handle tough conversations with confidence. We’ll cover practical systems, mechanisms, and habits that keep you on top of everything—plus smart ways to use AI to save time and communicate better.
You'll walk out with the systems, scripts, and frameworks to lead effectively. We do much of the work in-session so you’re ready for Monday. You’ll also get access to 1:1 coaching and peer circles for continued support.
Leave with clear priorities and confidence to manage your team
Identify the top 5 IC habits that break at manager level and replace them with manager behaviors
Build your personal Manager Operating Checklist for what you own now vs. your team owns
Run your first 30–60 day manager focus plan instead of reacting day to day
Create intentional and effective ways to build common understanding and expectations with each member of your team
Install 3 simple reporting mechanisms so you know status without chasing updates
Define clear decision rights (what your team owns vs what needs your input) and how to bring this to each team member
Use a trust-building manager cadence (1:1s, priorities, follow-ups) your team can rely on
Create upward visibility updates that build confidence with your manager
Audit and update your existing stakeholder mechanisms to ensure the right level of visibility across key partners
Use a step-by-step difficult conversation framework
Practice common scenarios so it becomes second nature
Walk out with a script for the conversation you've been avoiding for the last 6 weeks
Run high-impact weekly 1:1s using a repeatable agenda template
Implement a team operating rhythm (updates, priorities, risks, decisions)
Build your Manager Playbook: meeting structures, checklists, and templates
Build AI into your processes so it streamlines time-consuming work, not adds to it.
Leverage AI to lean on each direct's strengths and support their development
Discuss ways to encourage your team to adopt AI in responsible and effective ways

You just got promoted to manager in the last 6 months (or you're about to be) and the next 90 days actually matter to your career.
You got feedback this cycle to be "more strategic," delegate more, or develop your team, and you don't have a clear plan to do it.
You're managing former peers, working 60-hour weeks, and your team is performing only because you're still doing too much of the work.

Peer and tenured manager support
After our training weekend together, you will have access to 3 mentor circles. Through these sessions, you'll get mentoring and support from tenured leaders and your peers

Day 1: Shift from IC → Leader + Build Trust + Run Your Team Effectively
On day 1, we will dive into building trust with your team, the mechanisms to set you and them up for success, and ways to use AI to streamline your work. For each module, we will learn frameworks, pressure test them with real-world scenarios, discuss how you'll apply them, then actually do the messy work to implement them in your day-to-day.
You'll leave day 1 feeling more organized, structured, and focused on what you need to get right first before moving forward.
Day 2: Communicating Like a Leader
On day 2, we'll focus on communicating like a leader. We'll start with how to tackle tough conversations with your team (feedback, bad news, constant change). We'll practice with real scenarios, and then we'll spend time prepping for your next tough convo. Then we'll dive into how to effectively manage up so you and your team get the visibility needed. We'll discuss and then audit your existing mechanisms and what needs to change. We'll end with building your 'playbook' -- summarizing both days and what you need to focus on now to implement these successfully.
