Design Leadership at Scale: Executive

Design Leadership at Scale

Why I enrolled

I want to leave this course with a clearer sense of where I can have the greatest impact as a design leader and what my next career step should be. I want to challenge my thinking through the experiences of the cohort, strengthen my personal brand and define the principles I want to lead by. Most importantly, I want to turn that clarity into action, setting a standard for myself that my team and peers can see, trust and follow.

What I’ll apply

The design executive playbook has given me a lot of ideas I'm keen to put into practice. My immediate priorities are:

Revisit my 5-year plan to make sure it reflects where I want to take the Design function.

Assess team capabilities and identify opportunities to upskill designers and build more strategic capability.

Stakeholder mapping across the team: Have each designer map their own stakeholders to identify relationship gaps, build stronger connections, and find opportunities to influence decisions more effectively.

Audit my calendar and remove activities that don't add value, making more time for strategic work.

Build a circle of influence action plan to strengthen relationships and bring design into business conversations earlier.

Develop a metrics dashboard that connects our design goals and measures to broader company objectives.

The biggest opportunity is to move beyond improving the design practice itself and focus more on how we influence business strategy, build team capability and demonstrate measurable outcomes.
