The Influential PM: Strategy, Stakeholders, Significance

Brennan Collins

VP Product. 500+ PMs Stuck to Strategic

From order-taker to outcome-owner. Get the promotion you earned.

Product Managers are meant to be more like entrepreneurs than delivery managers.

If you're running clean sprints and closing your Jira board every week, you're doing exactly what you were trained to do. But if you feel like something's missing in your job, and you're still waiting on a promotion that never comes, it's not a coincidence.

The PM who succeeds is the one who connects product work to business outcomes and speaks the language of the people who make decisions.

Most PMs were trained in one pillar of the job: delivery, and yet are judged on all four: strategy, delivery, customer experience, and growth. That dissonance is often felt but unseen from the inside. The Influential PM makes it visible and shows you how to amplify your impact and accelerate your career.

This is a four-week live cohort: eight sessions with Brennan, practicing real frameworks on your actual work with a cohort of peers who will sharpen your thinking.

This is the second step in the Unabated trilogy: Emerging PM → The Influential PM → Unabated PM.

What you’ll learn

Stop executing others' roadmaps. Build strategy that gets funded, speak the language of business, and win stakeholder buy-in.

  • Build the chain from your feature to a business outcome a VP would present to a board.

  • Numbers at every level. If there's no number, there's no ladder.

  • Learn to avoid vanity metrics (e.g. "engagement") and speak to anyone at any level.

  • Your stakeholders aren't irrational. They're optimizing for things you can't see yet.

  • When you know what people are actually rewarded and punished for, you stop pitching to their stated priorities and start getting approved.

  • Strategy docs collect dust when they read like typical roadmaps, i.e. timelines of features to be delivered.

  • Learn to present strategy as a decision-making rubric: what you're solving, why now, what you're not doing, how you'll know it's working.

  • Revenue, margin, retention, expansion: the language your CFO speaks.

  • Build the translation layer that connects your feature work to the business outcomes that get budgets approved.

  • Gaining executive support for your product and your career is crucial, but they don't really care what you built.

  • High-impact PMs connect what they build to the hidden number that each executive is worried about.

  • Resistance to your plans doesn't mean "no." It means you're framing things incorrectly.

  • Learn reframing techniques for the situations that trip up even the most experienced PMs.
