The Atticus Project AI skills for lawyers, built on legal AI research.

The Atticus Project is a nonprofit teaching AI skills to legal professionals.

Our peer-reviewed research includes three open-source legal AI benchmark datasets: CUAD (NeurIPS 2021), MAUD (EMNLP 2023), and ACORD (ACL 2025).

We translate that research into hands-on workshops for in-house counsel and legal teams. Each cohort is taught by a former GC. Past guest instructors include Saba Legesse (Head of Legal, Infoblox), Irene Liu (Founder, Hypergrowth GC), and Ji-Hyun Park (former Global Head of Legal at Intercom). Workshops cap at 20 attendees, run 2 hours, and include a take-home kit and CLE credit (CA MCLE plus reciprocity in 14 states).

Atticus also runs executive education in legal AI at Stanford Law Exec Ed and UC Berkeley Law Exec Ed.

AI Habits for Legal Professionals: Hands-On Workshop

John is extremely knowledgeable and speaks in a clear and easy to understand manner, with no "insider jargon." He brings this course at a level that resonates with those newer to adopting AI and those who are looking to maximize their use.

The AI Habits for Legal Professionals course was a valuable and practical learning experience. I appreciated that the program focused less on abstract discussion and more on hands-on application, giving participants the opportunity to work directly with AI tools in ways that map to real legal workflows. The cohort format also made the course more meaningful. Hearing how other professionals were thinking about AI adoption, experimentation and risk helped ground the material in practical use cases. Overall, the course was useful, well-structured and relevant for legal professionals looking to build confidence and better habits around using AI in their day-to-day work.

Irene and team were great instructors. The course was helpful in covering the basics of AI tools and their interfaces as well as good use cases. Very practical and foundational (pun intended). Thank you.
