Change Ready: Guiding Teams Through This Change and the Next

Every reaction to change is useful once you know what to do with it.

Everyone has different reactions to change. Conventional wisdom says to reward the early adopters and treat resistance as a liability. The best leaders of change don't simply drive everyone to acceptance. They identify and empathize with common responses to change, maximizing the benefits of each while minimizing the drawbacks.

Change Ready gives you a way to read what each person is doing, understand what's driving it, and decide what support will actually help. You'll be ready for change now and later, big or small, whether it's yours or you inherited it.

How It Works

☑️ Real situations. Bring a change you're leading right now and work on it the whole way through.

☑️ Everyone participates. Small group discussion and hands-on activities on a shared board, start to finish.

☑️ Practical application. You leave with a plan for the actual people on your team, not a generic playbook.

What you’ll learn

Rethink your role in change and learn practical tools to read reactions, uncover what's driving them, and get everyone contributing.

  • Move away from driving everyone toward acceptance as the goal

  • Recognize what different reactions are actually telling you

  • Understand your own default reaction and how it shapes what you notice

  • Identify the benefit each response brings, including the ones that slow you down

  • See the drawbacks that come with enthusiasm as well as with resistance

  • Check your own bias about which reactions are the "good" ones

  • Diagnose what's actually driving resistance, not just what was said out loud

  • Tell the difference between disagreement about details and conflict over values

  • Know where to start when you can't tell what the real problem is

  • Match your response to what's genuinely in the way for that person

  • Provide what someone needs to move instead of pushing harder

  • Know when to slow someone down rather than clear their path

  • Assess each person involved in the change you're leading right now

  • Decide what specific support each of them needs from you

  • Get feedback on your plan from other managers working through the same thing
