Why this topic matters

Tech orgs are flattening, and expectations of individual PMs are rising. Senior product managers are expected to lead large swaths of the product, manage multiple teams, and handle both strategy and execution. To do this, PMs need to harness AI as much as possible—without watering down our hard-earned advantages, putting out average work, or being slowed down by LLMs' weak points.

AI PM, Early @ Patreon, Riverside, Wix, 1700+ students, millions of views

Hey 👋 I'm Tal. I've been a hands-on product manager & technical founder for 15+ years at hypergrowth companies, always among the first PMs. Most recently, I joined as first PM at Riverside.fm, leading an AI product used by Mark Zuckerberg, Michelle Obama, and Bill Gates.

Here's what I left off my resume:

I constantly struggle with feeling overwhelmed and distracted.

For much of this time I was leading 2-3 product teams simultaneously, there's no way I could have thrived without deliberate productivity systems that allow me to expand my scope without sacrificing my well-being.

At the same time, I'm naturally skeptical of whether new productivity tools are worth the time investment.

Ironically, as an AI PM acutely aware of the weak points of LLMs, I didn't incorporate ChatGPT in my workflow.

My concerns were:

  • Make me sound average
  • Dull my storytelling
  • Take too long to fix and edit

...and I'd rather do my own writing.

Over time, by necessity & experimentation, I discovered the tactics that made LLMs an indispensable tool in my day to day.
