What you'll learn

Why most careers are built on defaults, not decisions

What it actually looks like to build a career versus falling into one, and how to tell which one you're doing.

How to figure out what you actually want

A framework for identifying the trade-offs you're willing to make before you're five years in.

Which skills and roles compound over time

Which early moves build transferable credibility and leave you with more options at 30.

How to build optionality, not just security

How to make decisions now that hold up regardless of how the next decade plays out.

Why this topic matters

Most career advice is about getting hired. Very little of it is about what you're building toward. The majority of graduates take what's available, stick with what feels safe, and optimise for the offer in front of them rather than the decade ahead. AI is reshaping which roles exist and which skills compound. This session is about making better decisions before five years pass and you realise you.

You'll learn from

Jasmine Hasmatali

Head of Partnerships and Growth @ Breakthrough Social Enterprise

Jasmine didn't start her career in tech. She came to it through human rights law, writing her dissertation at the intersection of human rights and digital inclusion at the University of Edinburgh.

Like a lot of graduates, she spent eight months applying to over 50 roles, had more coffee chats than she could count, and ended up finding the right thing through a combination of persistence and fortunate timing.

Now, as Head of Partnerships and Growth at Breakthrough, she builds strategy, develops AI workflows, and leads communications for a mission she genuinely believes in. She is proof that a non-linear start and a humanities degree are not obstacles. In the right hands, they're an advantage.

Alexandra Willis

Alex has a decade of experience delivering digital, design and strategy projects from concept to launch. Alongside building inicio, she leads the project & planning team for the New York Marathon. She founded inicio because of her own frustrations with not knowing where her passions, experience and skillset aligned, and because she knew she was missing key career opportunities.

Jakub Halva

Co-Founder & CTO @ inicio Careers

Jakub has worked in tech for 15+ years, and is CTO at a top UK E-commerce agency. He's managed a business generating $5m+ ARR and personally led the development of an AI-SaaS product. He founded inicio to channel his commercial acumen and AI product expertise into solving real-world problems with AI.
