Taught Sustainable AI course at MIT

This hands-on bootcamp explores the intersection of AI and climate, offering participants foundational knowledge and practical skills. No technical skills are required. Attendees will delve into the climate harms of AI, the potential climate benefits of AI, the net climate impact of AI, and strategies for making AI more sustainable.
Participants will transform theory into action through hands-on projects. You'll have the opportunity use intuitive low-code/no-code tools to create an AI application, with optional opportunities to leverage coding for those interested in further technical learning. Learn the fundamentals of sustainable AI, including building an AI solution - while addressing pressing challenges in sustainability.
The program concludes with a capstone activity in which participants develop and present a project with the aim of making AI more sustainable; it can be a prototype, policy, framework, venture concept, art piece, or something else. Whether you're new to AI and climate or experienced, this bootcamp provides a platform for innovation and impactful problem-solving.

I've worked in Energy and DERs for over 10 years and took an AI in Energy Solutions course from Jennifer. Her depth and breadth of knowledge in both Energy and AI was apparent in her classes. She effectively gathered a group of students with varying exposure to each topic into solution with realistic and viable capstone results that will affect the future of energy across the world. Her depth of knowledge was extensive and her approachable demeanor allowed for a dynamic and effective class with both MIT students and industry professionals. I highly recommend Jennifer as an experienced, data driven innovator in the energy sector.

Jennifer Turliuk has made several presentations for the Climate Collective community over the last couple of months. She always shows up in a professional and prepared way. One thing that really stands out to me is how she blends her expertise and credibility (MIT, data center impact modelling, etc) with humility and humanity for the moment we're in, things we don't yet know and bigger questions/topics she's tracking. Our nonprofit audience particularly appreciate how she brings concrete suggestions for how they can take action on her data and findings. Her blend of being an excellent educator, curious mind and well prepared has resulted in us bringing her back as an expert lecturer again and again.

I took Jennifer's course, MIT IAP AI for Energy Solutions, with a sense of excitement and trepidation.
I had some knowledge of AI and was interested in how it could help us combat Climate Change.
However, I'm by no means an expert and I was concerned the course would go over my head.
Fortunately, I shouldn't have worried. Jennifer's teaching style is so warm and inclusive that I immediately felt comfortable.
She went out of her way to ensure the course was understandable and brilliantly explained a lot of difficult AI concepts.
Jennifer's teaching was so skillful that I gained confidence with each lesson.
I walked away informed and inspired. Jennifer is a beacon of light in what can be a dark and complicated AI world. I can't recommend her highly enough.

Jennifer was my professor for MIT's AI for Energy course– she was exceptional. The class was a 4-week deep dive into the application of AI to address energy challenges. The speed with which Jennifer was able to get us actually building AI applications went beyond my expectations for the course. She kept the topics approachable throughout, and lined up impressive expert speakers for in-class Q&A, including AI developers, founders, and a former DOE official (Jennifer is a super-connector). I left the course with a strong sense of the current state of AI and the experience of having built a working AI application. I'm grateful for the chance to learn from (and cross paths) with Jennifer.
