How Lattice built AI fluency across the company
“People have gone from basic to expert AI fluency. We normally build our own L&D offerings, but this has been hands down one of the best L&D investments we’ve made.”
The problem: how to upskill an already AI-aware org
At Lattice, teaching AI basics was straightforward. They rolled out enterprise model access, worked AI into manager programs and team onsites, offered live lunch and learn sessions, and kept an internal channel where people traded prompts and use cases. Teams were already reaching towards AI by default.
But enablement hit a ceiling at the intermediate/advanced level when the workflows become specialized, role-specific skills.
Self-paced training wasn’t effective
Their video-based learning licenses went mostly unused, with under 5% usage on Udemy. “People learn best when they get information… they can try out in real time, and not have to watch videos,” said Mollie.
Getting employees to train others wasn’t scalable
“I’m learning alongside everyone else,” said Mollie West Duffy, who leads L&D. “We’re missing out if we only look to people internally to teach this.”
Sophie Roberts, SVP of Engineering, framed the adoption problem as a 20/60/20 split: 20% are innovators and early adopters, 20% won’t get on board, and the 60% in the middle are coachable but just needed the right motivation and accountability.
The pilot with Maven was built for that middle group, with live, expert-led training aimed at a more AI-aware employee base… and it landed.
Pilot structure
Over 3 months, 47 students across the whole company enrolled in Maven courses on different AI topics:
- 37% go-to-market — marketing, sales, rev ops, activation
- 37% business & operations — people, customer care, legal, accounting
- 26% product, engineering & design
Rather than assign courses, Mollie’s team let people choose their own AI courses, and they picked 28 different ones. The breadth of Maven’s catalog turned out to be a gamechanger because even inside one function, people needed different AI skills.
The results
The pilot was surveyed at the end. Each number came with people saying the same thing in their own words.
87% came away more confident using AI at work
“I came to the course with an intermediate understanding of how agentic AI works, and I’ve walked out feeling like a true expert. I could build anything now.”
68% now reach for AI more often day to day
“I’m going to use Cursor in a project that’s underway right now, which should free up eng to work on other stuff.”
98% came back for more than one live session
“The instructor was extremely clear in lectures and explained things in an approachable way. I’d leave lectures feeling like maybe these concepts weren’t as complicated as I’d built them up.”
4.8/5 course satisfaction
“She took time to review every single person’s homework and provide feedback along the way, which I really appreciated.”
Lattice is expanding Maven for Business licenses to the wider company.
“I think it’s awesome that Lattice is considering this investment, and I would strongly encourage us to make it available to all employees.”
