Turn Weak Ties into Meaningful Connections for Mid-Career Professionals

It's easy to click for contact yet hard to feel actual connection

Social media has conditioned us all to prioritize quantity of contacts (friends, followers, likes, views, etc.) The more impactful strategy is to invest energy in improving the quality of connections with people who are between random contacts and our inner circle of closest friends.

In this highly-interactive session limited to 20 students, you will get personalized attention and guided practice to help strengthen your weak ties for professional opportunities, fresh thinking, and a higher level of happiness.

At the end of the workshop, you will have tools that help turn contacts into meaningful connections and a plan for how the amazing people you have already met can help you navigate increasing uncertainty.

What you’ll learn

You'll learn how to strengthen connections with others in ways that are more meaningful than your “network” but not as deep as “friendship”

  • Engage in an active session designed to help you quickly build and sustain weak-tie connections

  • Practice applying what you learn in a safe and structured conversation.

  • Enjoy genuine conversations with interesting people within a structure that brings out fresh thinking.

Workshop agenda

  • Explore why meaningful connections are important yet difficult

A summary of relevant research and a chance for participants to share their own experiences and insights with one another

  • Learn specific techniques for moving "contacts" to "connections" with meaning

How can we feel a little more connected to the people who are further out in our networks? We'll learn specific tips and take time to practice with peers

  • Practice building trust and being vulnerable

Making meaningful connections requires distinct skills that are hard to practice. This low-stakes, controlled workshop is designed to help you improve your skills in a judgment-free context

  • Apply these approaches to your network

Participants will have structured time with accountability partners to make a plan for engaging at least three people from their network. We'll also schedule a future check in with the instructor
