<ul class="list-disc ml-8"><li><p class="p2-tall">Treating the first 20 meetings as practice. Knowing that founders average about 83 meetings to close a round, and that the early ones are mostly about improving the pitch, changes how I'll handle them. I'm going to approach fundraising like stand-up comedy: try material, see what lands, and cut what doesn't. Before I take meetings with the investors I care most about, I'll run the confusion and excitement test with friends and advisors three to five times, and I'll record my pitch and listen back to it on the train.</p></li><li><p class="p2-tall">Qualifying investors the way I qualify customers. I already collect signed LOIs from prospects before I send a proposal, and the course showed me I should bring the same discipline to investors. If an investor doesn't understand the problem of entering the Japanese market, more follow-ups won't change that. I'll focus on investors who back cross-border and infrastructure companies and move on quickly from the ones who aren't a fit.</p></li><li><p class="p2-tall">Timing follow-ups from engagement data. I'm setting up two deal rooms, one with only the deck for cold outreach and one with the deck and data room for engaged investors. Then I'll use the open and click data to decide when to follow up. Until now I've been guessing about when to reach out.</p></li><li><p class="p2-tall">Sending a monthly investor update. My first one is drafted. I plan to send it the same week every month, with the good news, the bad news, and a clear ask, so that people already know the story when I ask for intros. I also want to keep leaning on the traction I have.</p></li></ul>
