Perry's forgotten more on human element security than the rest of us will even know! Perry understands how our brains work, and how that affects our propensity to be both duped by bad guys and engaged by security awareness content. He's one of my go-to people in the field.

Perry Carpenter

Lifelong fascination with deception, technology, behavior, & the human element.

With over 20 years of experience in cybersecurity, I am a trusted advisor, speaker, and author who helps organizations develop effective security awareness and behavior change programs. I currently serve as the Chief Human Risk Management Strategist at KnowBe4, the world's largest security awareness training and simulated phishing platform. I've authored two books targeting the security awareness community,"Transformational Security Awareness" (which was inducted into the Cybersecurity Canon Hall of Fame) and "The Security Culture Playbook."

My path has been a relentless pursuit of understanding how bad actors exploit human nature. My fascination for the art and science of deception began in childhood with magic tricks and mental manipulations, evolving into a mission to protect others from digital threats. As the Chief Human Risk Management Strategist at KnowBe4, I help organizations and individuals build robust defenses against the ever-evolving landscape of online deceptions.

My latest book, FAIK: A Practical Guide to Living in a World of Deepfakes, Disinformation, and AI-Generated Deceptions (Wiley: Oct 2024), tackles the fascinating and often daunting world of artificial intelligence. I explore AI's potential benefits and the darker side of its application in deception and misinformation. Through engaging storytelling and practical advice, I equip readers with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the complexities of AI-driven deception.

Cameron Malin

Cameron Malin

Relentless focus on exposing how adversaries exploit both tech & the human mind.

I am a Behavioral Profiler who specializes in understanding cyber adversaries and the “why” behind their cyberattacks.

For over 20 years as an FBI Special Agent (the last 11 years of which as a Behavioral Profiler in the Behavioral Analysis Unit), an information security author, a former prosecutor, and now a Cyber Behavioral Profiler for Modus Cyberandi, it’s been my life work and passion to better understand cyber adversary motivations, intentions, emotions and decision making processes.

I’m proud to have helped create and establish the FBI BAU’s capability to behaviorally assess cyber adversaries, the Cyber Behavioral Analysis Center (CBAC), and its capability to analyze (and counter) deception, influence and information operations, the Deception & Influence Group (DIG). I’m equally proud and excited to continue and elevate these important capabilities through the unique work at Modus Cyberandi, bringing Cyber Behavioral Profiling from out of the shadows to help defend your organization.

As an author, I write books that explore both the “digital weapons” and “psychological weapons” adversaries use in their attacks: Deception in the Digital Age: Exploiting and Defending Human Targets Through Computer Mediated Communications; the Malware Forensics book series, and the forthcoming 2026 book, Synthetic Media, Deepfakes and Cyber Deception: Attacks, Analysis, & Defenses.
