Course overview

Unlock your potential as a strategic force —not just an operations engine.

Design Operators frequently struggle with complex challenges such as scaling design teams and managing headcount, defining unified design processes in distributed agile environments, creating meaningful career frameworks or improving colleague engagement and retention.

Driving some of these initiatives can be very time-consuming yet they often fail to deliver meaningful impact. What differentiates failed initiatives from successful ones? Is it creativity? Vision? A top-down mandate? Efficiency?

It actually comes down to 3 factors: Diligence, Decision and Discipline.

Diligence is about identifying the true needs of the organisation. Decision is about having a strategic and repeatable decision making process that gets stakeholders on board. Discipline is about instilling accountability towards execution because without execution there's no impact.

Learn how to apply the 3D framework, a practical blueprint for driving meaningful change, scaling design capabilities and delivering true value to your organisation.

Transform your own operating model and level of impact:

From Tactical thinking --> To Strategic thinking

From Wasting resources and energy --> To Focusing on biggest opportunities

From Measuring success through outputs --> To Delivering sustainable business value

From Operations engine --> To Organisational influencer

Overwhelmed with too much to do?

Get the shortcuts but learning from my own failures and successes. I'll share with you all the critical success factors and pitfalls to avoid for these core Design Ops topics:

> Careers frameworks: get a step-by-step process for creating successful career frameworks in less time, get people on board and communicate effectively. Save hours of work and headache

> Scaling processes and standards: avoid the long slog of having to convince everyone and learn how to assess whether scaling these is actually the right thing to do

> People management: get the golden rules for line management excellence, how to run effective 1:1, performance reviews and talent management

> Communities of practices: I'll share my approach for setting the strategy for communities of practice and how I doubled engagement as a result

> Scaling Design in Agile environments: I'll show you how I scaled Design Thinking to 5,000 people at Lloyds and how to use the Mindset - Tools - Skills model

> Fostering a design culture: discover the framework I use to make 'culture' tangible and create positive and lasting change

> Employee engagement: I'll show you how I increased engagement from 58% to 80%, the pitfalls to avoid and how to decide where to invest your energy

> Tooling management and strategy: the exact process I used to set my tooling strategy, run an RFP without drowning in admin (I saved £100k at my previous company in just a few weeks)

Complete with 1:1 coaching and a bonus session on how to present DesOps work to Executives (because I also coach people on public speaking and impactful presentations)

NEW BONUS SESSION: Peter Boersma will run a 90 min workshop on how to create and maintain a Design Ops roadmap for influence.

What you’ll get out of this course

Scale the impact of Design Ops in your organisation and establish your new own operating model for success with the 3D framework

Design Ops is often perceived as 'the oil in the engine' yet struggle to be recognised as a strategic function. Move from reactive to proactive and grow influence by changing the way you operate to the 3D modus operandi.

Diligence - Uncover the unwritten rules of how your organisation works so you can grow your influence and reputation

Learn how to assess and map the power dynamics within your organisation so you can identify the biggest leverage points for impact and avoid predictable pitfalls.

Decision - Make better decisions on which DesOps initiatives to take forward (or ditch) with a powerful decision-making framework

Skip the uphill battle of having to constantly justify your work by using a systematic and repeatable decision making process. Drive with clarity & alignment. Identify the critical assumptions that put your intended impact at risk.

Discipline - Deliver initiatives emphatically and completely by keeping everyone accountable, instilling discipline towards execution

As teams grow, ad-hoc practices can’t scale without a disciplined approach towards execution and performance. Identify your lead and lag measures, the importance of keeping a scorecard up to date and why accountability ultimately help drive impact.

Understand the pitfalls and critical success factors for core DesOps topics

Get the shortcuts by learning what it takes to make core Design Ops initiatives successful including fostering a design culture, careers frameworks, scaling processes & principles, design in agile set ups, employee engagement and tooling strategy.
