Dr Shah helps leaders outsmart fear in strategy
My research chased a single paradox: uncertainty about others' intentions breeds fear, defensive decisions — and the very outcomes we feared. That became the Defensive Decision Paradox — a framework I still develop, drawing on neuroscience, psychology and behavioral science, and thousands of first-hand accounts of fear of judgment and conflict at work from 130+ weekly workshops for my 16,500+ member community.
For a decade I've run Learning Brains, my education company — hard talks with parents, staff and students, and the cost of those I avoided.
As a PepTalk speaker, I talk on fear, judgment and conflict at work.
I also live with a metabolic condition that can trigger physiological stress — proof that the urgency of fear is rarely reliable evidence of the true stakes.
