Giving BAs AI Literacy to Understand, Evaluate and be Accountable for AI

AI risk often comes from poor assumptions about what AI can and cannot do. It also comes from poor analysis and organizational dynamics of leaders asking for solutions and pressuring teams to deliver solutions rather than solving real problems.

Analysis professionals have a huge role in this dynamic that can change everything!

Analysts are increasingly expected to participate in AI decisions, yet most training focuses on tools or stays abstract. This course fills the gap in understanding AI capabilities: Not from a technical point of view, rather a capability point of view; business uses and patterns of functional usage.

You will build a grounded understanding of AI capabilities, limits, patterns, and failure modes, and learn how requirements shift toward hypotheses, experiments, and continuous outcomes in AI-enabled work.

This course explores the skills of:

🎯 Identifying the right AI use cases for specific business scenarios

🎯 Distinguishing between deterministic and probabilistic systems and deciding where each should be applied in a workflow

🎯 Questioning and communicating AI use case fit and risks—and defining clear hypotheses for AI solutions

What you’ll learn

Students will learn the AI literacy to evaluate AI ideas, surface risk, and make sound judgments without becoming technical specialists.

  • How to assess AI suitability for a specific business problem before solution design begins

  • Deterministic vs. Probabilistic capabilities

  • How AI uses patterns, context, and guidance; and some common use cases for various types of AI

  • AI beyond popular GenerativeAI models

  • How to distinguish between automation, augmentation, and autonomy in business contexts

  • Assess what types of steps and processes are not a fit for AI

  • Assess and analyze AI project ideas for capability, risk, and fit

  • How to frame AI initiatives around measurable outcomes rather than technical features

  • Learn the difference in how various models use different sources of data.

  • Your orgs internal AI and the data it has access to

  • Understand why AI requirements must be framed as testable hypotheses, not fixed specifications.

  • Translate business intent into experiment design instead of static requirement documents.

  • Shift from “Is this built correctly?” to “Is this producing the intended outcome?”

  • Identify which decisions cannot be delegated to AI without oversight.

  • Establish escalation paths when AI confidence is low or behavior deviates.

  • Design "human in the loop" and human override mechanisms for high-risk or ambiguous scenarios.
