Course overview
Traditional leadership programs often present standardized curricula designed to impart general leadership theories, frameworks, and practices to a broad audience. While valuable, these programs may not fully address the unique needs and contexts of individual leaders. Shifting the focus to leader-led programs, which prioritize the development of the individual leader, offers several distinct advantages:
Personalized Development: Leader-led programs provide tailored coaching and feedback that aligns with the individual's specific strengths, weaknesses, and career aspirations. This personalized approach ensures that leaders receive relevant and actionable insights that directly apply to their unique contexts, fostering deeper self-awareness and targeted skill development. As a result, leaders are better equipped to navigate their personal challenges and capitalize on their inherent strengths.
Enhanced Emotional Intelligence and Authenticity: By focusing on the leader as an individual, these programs encourage the development of emotional intelligence and authentic leadership styles. Leaders learn to understand and manage their emotions, develop empathy, and build strong interpersonal relationships. This authenticity fosters trust and engagement within their teams, leading to a more cohesive and motivated workforce. Leaders who are true to themselves can inspire and influence others more effectively, driving positive organizational outcomes.
Sustainable and Adaptive Leadership: Leader-led programs emphasize continuous personal and professional growth, preparing leaders to adapt to changing circumstances and emerging challenges. This adaptability is crucial in today's fast-paced and complex business environments. By cultivating a mindset of lifelong learning and resilience, leaders can stay ahead of industry trends, make informed decisions, and lead their organizations through uncertainty with confidence. This sustainable approach ensures that leadership development is not a one-time event but an ongoing journey of improvement and innovation.
Deliberately limited to 6 participants to maximize one-on-one coaching and support time.
To build a program that focuses on the leader, I thought I’d focus on some basic truths (things we can all agree upon) of what makes a good Leader.
My truths of being a leader are:
Leading is personal, whilst some people may see somebody as being a good leader, others may not. On the same note, how we show up as a leader will be different for each and every one of us, this is where authenticity has a place, being true to who we are and not trying to be somebody else.
The right to lead is not a given and does not come with a job title. Just because we have authority does not bestow great leadership skills upon us. Nor is hierarchy a factor – a good leader can be the Boss, but similarly, a good leader may be much lower in the hierarchy and see opportunities to effect change for the better of the business.
Leaders build strong relationships to be effective. It means reaching out to those you intend to lead and making connections with them. The skills of rapport building are critical to engage the hearts and minds of others.
People follow people, not job titles. Doing something because somebody has seniority is management and drives compliance, whereas doing something for someone because of who they are, their character and personality draws out discretionary effort and maximum commitment.
Leaders make progress and often shows up or is required in times of change, it’s about action and movement.
Communication is key and essentially, the only tool in a Leader’s toolbox. You can either do this well and engage others in your mission, or not and merely rely on compliance. The skills of influence and persuasion are key in exciting others to willingly take actions to effect the changes you require.
Overt the last 30 years, I have always believed that all of the skills of being a good leader can be learned and learned in groups, and given the right stimuli, each person will take different things away, essentially, creating their own leader brand.
