Create a system to keep documentation in use and updated

Make your documentation efforts repeatable and sustainable for scale

Learn how to create a scalable system that can be standardized across the business, to keep documentation easily updated, relevant, and useful.

This 3-hour workshop will provide guidance and a template for thinking through how to set up this system first for yourself, then involving other people and roles in your documentation efforts for your company or team.

Note that specific tools are only briefly covered in this workshop, it is not a documentation tool comparison class.

The workshop includes pre-work, individual work time, small group breakout discussions about your systems-in-progress, and full group discussions.

It will be most useful for people who have already started creating the documentation itself.

This workshop is also offered as part of a larger 4-session course, this is day 3 of 4 in the larger course. If you're looking for help prioritizing where to start, writing or improving the documentation itself, and handling objections from other people, see the full course: https://maven.com/jen-bergren/documentation1

What you’ll learn

If it's not used, it's not useful! Set up routines and responsibilities to enable yourself and your team to use and update documentation.

  • Analyze the four parts of a sustainable system and decide how you'll apply each part, using a template for guidance and reflection

  • Decide which roles for documentation are relevant for your company, using a template for guidance and reflection
