About the Instructor:

Deepu is a railway signalling professional with over 20 years of experience. He has worked as a Signalling Technical Leader and Engineering Manager in both the public and private sectors. His expertise spans from conventional fixed block systems to modern CBTC systems with various railways, including those in Australia, Singapore, the Philippines, the Netherlands, and India.

Summary

This course is intended for those who wish to learn about Railway Signalling Concepts and explore a career in the world of railway signalling. The course covers UK and Australian Railway Signalling Principles, which can be easily related to US Railroad Signalling Principles.

The course begins by explaining the purpose of signalling and describing 50 important signalling terms, providing a solid foundation in the field. It then delves into signalling a track layout using the concept of the fixed (absolute) block system, which considers headway, vertical and horizontal gradients, and braking curves.

An introduction to control tables will be provided; control tables are tabular forms that outline how various signalling components are interlocked. Finally, the course covers Modern Train Control Systems, specifically Computer Based Train Control Systems (CBTC), including its components and the differences between traditional fixed block systems and Moving Block Systems.
