With 30+ years of experience, I think I have covered just about everything in finance. This includes:

 

  • All aspects of accounting and financial reporting as a Controller and Finance Manager for both small and large companies as well as non-profit organizations
  • Leading complicated financial projects such as ERP implementations, multi-million-dollar Cost Benefit Analysis requests, and designing a compliant Earned Value Management System for the Department of Veterans Affairs
  • Managing a wide range of analytical type projects such as Balanced Scorecards, Competitive Intelligence initiatives, Strategic Plans and Risk Adjusted Cost Models for large scale IT investments

 

My educational background includes three professional certifications: Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, and Certified in Financial Management.

 

Advanced education includes Six Sigma Green Belt certification, Dale Carnegie Leadership Program, Executive Education in Finance at the Wharton Business School, and Cost Management Program at J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

 

I continue to teach and mentor through organizations such as SCORE – Service Corp of Retired Executives. My teaching background includes webinars, workshops and conference events for George Mason University, Virginia Society of CPA’s and the Alliance of Merger and Acquisition Professionals.

    Module 1 - Fundamental Concepts with Financial Decision Making such as Gross Margins, Return on Investment, and Adjusting for Risk.

  • March 6, 2025

    90 minutes

    Module 2 - Accounting Basics and the Financial Statements. This module walks through a simple startup example, explaining exactly how financial transactions connect to the financial statements

  • March 11, 2025

    90 minutes

    Module 3 - Analysis of long term investments using a Cost Benefit approach. Includes measuring Total Cost of Ownership and applying present value concepts

  • March 13, 2025

    90 minutes

    Module 4 - Financial forecasting techniques with an emphasis on underlying drivers and "qualitative" analysis, not just number crunching

  • March 18, 2025

    90 minutes

    Module 5 - Funding the business and capital formation including sources for startups such as bootstrapping

  • March 20, 2025

    90 minutes

    Module 6 - Managing working capital components such as cash and inventory. Includes a discussion of key metrics and formulas.

    Module 7 - Advanced topics in finance such as private capital valuations, intellectual capital and the application of balanced scorecards.
