I used to believe that being smart and working hard was enough to have a successful career. I was wrong. I got fired at one job, and burned out at the next, until I learned how to let go of doing the work myself and work through others.

I went on to serve as the Google Search Ads Chief of Staff for over six years, running business strategy and operations for a $100+B business without any direct reports. I built influence without authority, and got things done through other executives and cross-functional partners.
