What you’ll get out of this course

Financial Decision-Making in Organizations

In this section, we will explore the types of financial management decisions, the role of the financial manager, the different forms of business organization, the overall goal of financial management, and the conflicts of interest that can arise between managers and owners.

Financial Statements, Taxes, and Cash Flow

In this section, we will study the three most heavily used financial statements, the differences between book and market value, the difference between marginal and average tax rates, and how to determine a company's cash flow from assets or free cash flow.

Working With Financial Statements

From this section, you will be able to build the statement of cash flows from the income statement and changes in the balance sheet, compute key financial ratios to determine the health and strength of the organization, and know how to calculate the DuPont Identity.

Become Financially Savvy!

In this course, you will become financially savvy in the ways of corporate finance to help you run your business or your new side hustle! And, as a special added bonus, we will learn some very valuable concepts to aid you in your personal financial life!

Financial Decision-Making in Organizations

In this first of four modules, we will explore the role of the financial manager in organizations, the three key financial statements used in organizations, and how to work with these financial statements to make effective decisions via ratio analysis.

Valuation of Future Cash Flows

In our second module, we will explore budgeting and forecasting for the future. We will also explore both the lump sum time value of money, and discounted cash flow valuation tools for discrete individual cash flows.

Financial Markets and Institutions

In module three, we will look at interest rates and their impacts on bond valuation, learn how to value a stock, and study the history of capital markets and what lessons we can learn from capital market history.

Investments

In module four, we will study key investment criteria like NPV, %IRR, and AAR and how to use these tools to make good major investment decisions. Additionally, we will study relevant, incremental, after-tax cash flows and how to use these to calculate OCF and free cash flows. Finally, we will address three types of breakeven analyses.

  • Sunday Cohort Meetups/Class lectures

    3:00 pm - 4:30 pm EST

    We will meet every Sunday afternoon in mid-May (14th through 28th) from 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm to learn the fundamentals of corporate (and a bit of very valuable personal) finance!


  • Weekly projects

    2 hours per week

    Schedule items can also be used to convey commitments outside of specific time slots (like weekly projects or daily office hours).
