James McClure

C-level tech exec with 50+ angel investments, VC scout, ex-Airbnb and Google

Course overview

Start investing alongside Tier 1 VCs in a week with as little as 1k

Many think you need to spend a ton of money to angel invest, however in my experience you can get top quartile returns with multiple small bets.

In this course you’ll create your own investment persona, critique live deals and make real investment decisions.

This course is for you, if...

01

You are a crazy busy tech exec who wants to angel invest but can only spare less than an hour a week

02

You are a VC backed C-level or VP leader who wants to back hyper-growth companies without writing huge checks

03

You've had a major exit or IPO and want to back the next generation of tech superstars

What you’ll get out of this course

Create your own investment persona

Together we'll refine your investment thesis and your value add so you can build a better portfolio in less time

Construct a robust dealflow and start to invest alongside Tier 1 VCs

Deploy the expert techniques I've used across 50+ investments alongside Sequoia, Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund and Atomico

Grab expert-level frameworks and tools to simplify good decision making

Avoid costly mistakes that I've made by using frameworks and heuristics to stress test opportunities

Critique live deals and make investment decisions

We'll tear down active deals together to give greater exposure and shortcut your learning curve, and make decisions on whether to invest

What people are saying

James embodies the type of investor you want in your corner from day 1. Many investors claim they want to be a value-add investor, but James is the real deal and is on your team. We have worked with many angels and James is at the top in terms of hands on, value add

As a first-time founder, having James as an angel investor has been incredibly valuable. He is very knowledgeable on commercial topics, but he has a rare ability to be a sounding board on a much wider area of topics and help you form better and more strategic opinions. You always leave a chat with James smarter and more energized than you started

James was our very first investor and has diverse global business experience, which means he can give actionable insight on various topics. He’s great at guiding strategic direction and helping to deal with the day-to-day operational issues that regularly arise in a startup

It has been nothing short of brilliant working with James. He's the first to pitch in with practical support, whether user testing our product, or listening to me rant on the tough days. James is the epitome of an awesome angel investor, and i'm excited to see him sharing his wisdom with the next generation of angel investors.

James McClure

Angel Investor and VC Scout; senior exec at Airbnb, Google and SeatGeek; one of Debrett's 500 Most Influential People in the UK

Over the past 3 years, I've made over 50 angel investments, become a VC scout and invested alongside Tier 1 VC funds like Sequoia, Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund and Atomico.

I'm an operator investor who learned to balance full-time work and parenthood alongside angel investing.

As an executive coach, I'm passionate about developing angels and start-ups because of the life-changing opportunities technology can bring - which is why I'm building this course.

If you’re a senior tech executive who finds it hard to devote the time to angel investing and feel like you're missing out on a potential unicorn, then this course is for you.

I bring the experience from my 15+ years as a senior executive at companies like Airbnb, Google and SeatGeek, and worldwide knowledge from working across 25+ countries in the Americas, EMEA and APAC.

Outside of investing or coaching, you'll find me listening to grime, playing with my 1 year old son or planning my next adventure - I've driven tuk-tuks across India and Indonesia; and I've ridden a monkey bike across the Sahara to raise money for charity.

Your Syllabus to Success

01

Identify your personalised investment thesis and value add

Together we'll create your investment persona: the thesis and benefits that are unique to you, so you can laser in on your ideal startups to back. These are crucial to focusing your efforts on the areas you truly care about and saving you valuable time.

02

Design a healthy dealflow and start to invest alongside Tier 1 VCs

Adapt the dealflow techniques I used to become a VC scout and invest alongside Sequoia, Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund and Atomico.

In this session you'll understand how to critique syndicates as well as how to surface emerging gems yourself.

03

Get expert-level tips and tricks to shortcut the learning curve

You'll adapt the frameworks I've used to evaluate VC scout opportunities and investments plus you'll develop your Spidey senses for when something smells wrong.

04

Appraise live deals and make real investment calls

We'll tear down live deals together to fast track learning. These will be on live deals that we've sourced, with the opportunity to make a real investment decision!
