This interactive course will teach you how to solve 3 major problems faced by senior ICs and managers. You’ll benefit from this hands-on learning experience whether you’re a new engineering manager taking the leap into managing people instead of just individual projects, or an experienced technical leader looking to take your skills further.   


Identifying and Driving Growth 

Learn how to identify opportunities within your team, and work with them to fill these gaps. Inspire team members to reach their potential, and figure out together how to make the most of their individual skills and ambitions. We'll cover how to spot when someone is ready for more responsibility, how to create stretch opportunities that actually help people grow, and how to align individual career goals with team needs.


Building Effective 1:1s and Development Conversations

Understand what it means to get the most out of a 1:1 with your team, and how to deliver constructive, actionable feedback. Learn how to prepare for and action development plans, and how to write QDPs (Quarterly Development Plans). We'll walk through frameworks for structuring productive 1:1s, how to move beyond status updates to meaningful career conversations, and how to track progress.


Communicate More Effectively

Grow your communication skills with your direct reports, peers, and upper management. Learn how to adapt your communication style for different audiences, whether you're explaining technical decisions, advocating for your team, or having difficult conversations with underperforming team members.


Delivering and receiving effective feedback

Learn how to ask for feedback from your team, and how to process and grow from it. Master effective conflict resolution that avoids common pitfalls and improves your team. We'll also practice giving feedback that people can actually act on, how to handle pushback, and how to create a culture where feedback goes both ways.

1:1s and performance reviews don't have to be stressful–my own team can back me up! I'll teach you how to keep the feedback loop active by applying my framework to conduct meaningful 1:1s and provide tactical, actionable feedback to your team on a regular cadence.

Make difficult decisions with confidence

From performance management to resource allocation, learn frameworks for making tough calls. We’ll learn how to gather the right information, involve the right people, and communicate decisions in a way that maintains trust and buy-in.

Navigate challenging conversations with peers and direct reports

Learn how to give constructive feedback from a trained therapist! I'll teach you effective communication strategies for conflict resolution within your team and building influence within your organization.
