Tom is the Chief AI Officer at General Purpose, where he runs hands-on, instructor-led training to help teams get confident using tools like ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot. He’s spent over a decade working in AI and has trained people at hundreds of organisations, making sure AI feels useful and approachable no matter where you’re starting from.

Before setting up General Purpose, Tom founded labworks.io, a Webby-award-winning conversational AI studio. He then launched Voice Arcade, one of the most prolific collections of Alexa skills in the world, used by millions of people. He’s also built AI tools and applications for many well-known brands.

Tom started his career as a journalist before moving into tech, which gave him a strong foundation in explaining complex topics clearly. He later became a conversation designer, working with language models well before ChatGPT came along. These days people often call him a prompt engineer, though he prefers "prompt designer" because he sees it more as creative problem-solving than anything overly technical.

He’s shared his thoughts on AI and large language models on the BBC, Bloomberg and other outlets, but what he really enjoys is helping people learn how to actually use AI in their everyday work.
