Learning is better with cohorts

Learning is better with cohorts
Active learning, not passive watching

This is a live online course, meaning you’re learning from Chris in real-time via Zoom. Our two weeks together will include in-workshop small group discussions and guided brainstorming sessions

Learn with a cohort of peers

This course brings together a community of people just like you - people who want more out of their careers and are ready to work hard for it. You’ll make new connections who can support you throughout this course and beyond.

Practice and Advice

FP&A skills can’t be learned from passively watching videos, they have to be practiced. You will have ample opportunity to apply what you have learned in a safe setting.

Tactics, Cheatsheets, and Frameworks

Don't expect just theory and principles. Chris shares best practices he uses himself and that he has seen work across industries. Expect to walk away from each workshop with tools and resources that you can immediately apply to your day-to-day at work.

What students are saying

In my role, I don’t always have the chance to ask for feedback. The course gave me concrete tips I could use on a daily basis. The exercises were very helpful in learning the skills to help me become a more well-rounded Finance professional. I highly recommend the course to anyone who wants to get better at Analysis and Finance Business Partnering.

I work closely with my business partners so improving collaboration is important to me. The real-life techniques for how to build trust were especially helpful. The checklists for forecasting and finding mistakes in Excel will be something I’ll use on a regular basis. Overall, I absolutely enjoyed the course and I already recommended it to a friend.

The course was filled with practical examples and exercises which really were a lot of fun and getting to meet many like-minded people in the course was definitely nice. Overall the course was super informative, practical, and relevant to today's times and covered all major aspects of FP&A.

The most important thing I took away from the course was how to engage stakeholders in the planning process. Often times we get lost in the data and financials without understanding how to engage other departments. This allows finance to add value across an organization.

This has definitely allowed me to find ways to really own the role in FP&A. I learned ways to be more credible and confident in my role and tools to take away to communicate and align with functional leads in a more effective way. Thank you so much, Christian!

The course gave a solid overview of the FP&A process, which was particularly helpful for me as I have worked with FP&A teams but have not been involved in driving the process.  I also found the excel tips very helpful, along with the demo of DataRails, which was a good example of a real-world FP&A tool.

The most important thing I took away from this course was the high-level process of planning, its goals, pitfalls, and how to create buy-in from business units.
John C.

Process Frameworks in general were most helpful to me. For example, frameworks on modeling design, the financial planning process, and business partnering will be a critical part of my toolkit going forward.

Course syllabus

01

Financial Storytelling

Effective reporting can achieve more than simply sharing the latest business results.

You can provide early detection of potential issues before they become problems. You can influence strategy setting, by highlighting the metrics that matter. And you can use reporting as a tool to create more accountability in areas that lack critical visibility.

02

Presenting Financials

How you present financial information matters. If you don’t just want to inform, but also influence senior decision-makers, then you need to learn how to tell stories with numbers. You need to do so in a way that is clear, concrete, credible, and memorable.

03

Business Partnering

You add value by being a sparring partner for your business partners on strategy and execution, by creating visibility of results, and by raising accountability. You need to do all that without having formal authority. As a result, you need to learn how to build professional relationships and trust.

04

Budget Management

FP&A can be seen as a neutral third party whose mission is to ensure company funds are spent wisely. It's your role to help find the right balance to achieve sustainable growth at the right level of profitability. You will learn how to challenge your business partners on the budget while building the relationship at the same time.

05

Financial Modelling

The magic of a well-crafted financial model is that it results in one number declaring the potential of a complex project. You will become intimately familiar with the most commonly used models, understand their advantages and shortcomings, and gain confidence in knowing when to apply them.

06

Planning & Forecasting

Annual planning can get hectic. It’s also a time to take a step back and think about the business strategically. Having the right approach to planning is critical. You will learn to lead the planning process end to end. You’ll master top-down and bottom-up forecasting to improve accuracy and enable organizational learning in-year.
