Meet your instructor
Dr. Elle Yuan Wang
AI and Learning Scientist and Startup Advisor
I serve as a regular reviewer for America's Seed Fund (NSF SBIR/STTR), advisory board member for XPRIZE - IES $1M Digital Learning Challenge, and judge for the $5M XPRIZE IBM Watson AI for Good Competition.
I've coached and written proposals that have resulted in $21M funding collectively in the last 10 years.
I received my PhD in Cognitive Sciences and Learning Analytics from Columbia University.
I have served as a lead scientist and advisor at the National AI Institute for Adult Learning and Online Education (AI-ALOE) and ASU Online. Previously, I worked for Columbia Tech Ventures, MTV Networks, and NYC Mayor Bloomberg's Office.

Overview of the required components for your proposal
- You will learn to understand and differentiate primary components of the proposal: Intellectual Merit, Broader Impact and Commercial Viability;
- Start writing a crisp introduction to convey "high-risk" and "high-return".

Demystify intellectual merits
- Learn hands-on tips to complete sprint research sessions;
- Practice using free online resources to conduct rigorous literature review;
- Write your intellectual merits section.

Broader impact done properly
- Learn 3 layers of broader impact;
- Avoid 5 common mistakes;
- Write your broader impact section.

Everything together
- Craft a solid commercialization strategy;
- Complete writing your full pitch proposal;
- Receive targeted help;
- Revise, re-write, and submit!
