Course overview

Managing Cognitive Biases

Even the most experienced leaders are subject to cognitive biases, which can distort judgment and decision quality.

70 years of research in psychology, economics, sociology, and neuroscience, has demonstrated that human decision-making is significantly and negatively impacted by cognitive shortcuts and biases. Without explicit learning to recognize and manage these cognitive biases, leaders and their organizations are at risk of making poor decisions.

This course teaches leaders to identify, manage, and mitigate biases that affect their own decisions and those made by their teams. Through strategies like pre-mortem analysis, participants will learn how to address biases like confirmation bias, overconfidence, and the sunk cost fallacy, fostering a culture where decisions are made more objectively and rationally.

At the Decision Leadership Institute, our courses are carefully designed to address the unique challenges that leaders face today, combining scientific rigor with real-world application. Our curriculum is based on three key pillars:

1. The Individual as a Leader:

Strengthening personal judgment, self-awareness, and decision-making abilities to ensure higher decision quality.

2. The Organizational and Broader Context:

Equipping leaders to foster high-quality decision-making processes within teams and across the organization.

3. Decision Sciences :

Integrating evidence-based frameworks, probabilistic thinking, and cognitive bias mitigation to drive better decision outcomes.
