02
You're a startup leader who needs to hire marketers, but you’re questioning what roles to hire and how to structure your team
03
You're a marketing leader at a startup who's debating how to sequence hires and build out your org over time
This course equips startup leaders with the essential knowledge and frameworks to design your marketing team. You’ll see how the right marketing team can drive company growth, and you’ll finish the course ready to hire.
Starting with your company goals in mind, you'll prioritize what roles are the right fit for your team. You'll learn the skillsets and superpowers of the three main types of marketers (Growth, Product Marketing, and Content) and decide which roles you need most.
You'll map your org chart in stages so you’re ready to add marketing capabilities over time. We’ll detail the right sequence of hires, team structure, and management layers for B2C and B2B businesses.
By the end of the course you'll be ready to start recruiting the exact marketers that you need. The process you learn to design your team will make decisions now AND in the future as your startup grows.

Marketing Executive & Startup Leader
Allyson is a marketing leader who's built marketing teams from scratch at several fast-growing Silicon Valley companies (Intuit, Thumbtack, Handshake). She now advises founders and leaders at VC-backed tech startups so they can fast track marketing decisions and build teams that deliver results.
Allyson knows how to scale marketing teams while rapidly building new capabilities at startups. As her companies grew from early stage to unicorns during her tenure, Allyson turned marketing into acquisition and retention growth engines. In this course, Allyson teaches the same approach she’s used to help 50+ startup founders and leaders design their teams. Learn Allyson’s GROW framework to design your org and build a marketing team that delivers results.

Build your marketing team with the GROW framework
I'll introduce you to my GROW framework to design your marketing team. During the course, you'll plan your Goals, Roles, Org, and Watchouts.
02
Define your marketing GOALS
The best way to design your marketing org is to start with your goals in mind. Before the course begins, you'll take a quiz to clarify the top outcomes you need marketing to drive. Then you’ll determine which functions are best equipped to achieve each goal.
03
Decide exactly what marketing ROLES you need
We'll compare the three main marketing functions: Growth, Product Marketing, and Content. You'll learn their key superpowers, success metrics, and what roles are in each function. You'll decide what roles and titles to target, and you'll determine candidates' ideal level and experience.
04
Design your marketing ORG
Now that you have a shortlist of roles to hire, it's time to plan your org chart. You'll map your org in stages, starting smart and lean. You'll plan what additional roles and managers to add over time as your business objectives and budget grow.

Plan to avoid key WATCHOUTS
Learn four essential areas where you need to enable your marketers for success: Results, Resources, Accountability, Advancement. You'll assess risk factors and develop a plan to ensure your marketing team can achieve their goals.

Now it's time to finalize a role brief for each marketer you need to hire. You'll tie everything together and clarify title, level, experience, and key results this marketer will drive. You'll be ready to start recruiting for must-have roles with with confidence and clarity.

In workshop #1, you'll learn about the unique superpowers of the three main marketing functions. You'll decide exactly which roles you need on your team. You'll begin to create a "role brief" for your must-have marketers. Finally, you'll learn how to design your org in stages.
9:00-10:30am PST
In workshop #2, you'll refine the stages and structure of your marketing org. We'll review org designs live so you can learn from other leaders too. We'll then discuss 4 key watchouts that hold back many marketing teams and how to avoid them. Now you'll finalize your role briefs!
9:00-10:00am PST
